Getting started with Tanzu Mission Control

VMware Tanzu™ Mission Control provides a portal for simplified, multi-cloud, and multi-cluster Kubernetes management. VMware Tanzu Mission Control integrates into Lumen® Edge Private Cloud on VMware Cloud Foundation™  to enable software-as-a-service packages for certificate management, load balancing, ingress control, etc. You can also add functionality through the use of add-on packages available in the VMware Tanzu Mission Control console. You can enable VMware Tanzu Mission Control cluster management in the VMware Cloud Services console, a centralized site for controlling and reporting on Kubernetes clusters. A Kubernetes cluster, a set of nodes that run containerized applications and services, provides a lightweight and flexible alternative to virtual machines.


To integrate VMware Tanzu Mission Control with Lumen® Edge Private Cloud on VMware Cloud Foundation™, you must meet the following requirements:

 

  • Meet the required memory and CPU reservations and limits. To learn about memory and CPU usage by cluster agent extensions, refer to Memory and CPU usage by cluster agent extensions.
  • Attach 1 or more Kubernetes clusters in the VMware Tanzu Mission Control console.

Attaching a cluster enables VMware Tanzu Mission Control to communicate with your cluster (for example, to capture health information), and manage your cluster (for example, to enforce policies). To attach a cluster in VMware Tanzu Mission Control, refer to the following:

 

When you attach a cluster, VMware Tanzu Mission Control creates a namespace, installs a set of cluster agent extensions, and intalls custom resource definitions. Refer to What happens when you attach a cluster.
